'That's a worry' - Keith Jackson slams player over actions last night, he's holding Rangers back

Keith Jackson has let rip on Djeidi Gassama after what he saw during Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Ferencvaros on Thursday.

Bojan Miovski fired Rangers into a first-half lead before goals from Bence Otvos and Barnabas Varga dumped Danny Rohl’s side out of the Europa League.

Gassama had made it a habit of performing in Europe, with five out of his six goals for Rangers coming in continental action.

However, since Rohl’s arrival as Rangers manager, the French winger has looked increasingly frustrated as his form has taken a turn for the worse.

Jackson can’t believe what he’s been seeing from Gassama in recent weeks, and his reaction to being subbed off didn’t sit right with the journalist.

Djeidi Gassama’s body language sends all the wrong messages

Gassama joined Rangers for £2.2million from Sheffield Wednesday after two promising seasons in the Championship under Rohl.

After impressing in the early parts of the season, Gassama has attracted interest from Villarreal, and Rangers could make a profit on him less than six months after his arrival.

During Thursday’s match, the Bears were in desperate need of a goal to avoid elimination, and Gassama was subbed off in the 59th minute for Mikey Moore, which sparked a frustrated reaction.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live after the match, Jackson finally lost his patience with the 22-year-old.

He said: “There’s very little end product, and I think his body language is really poor. The arms are coming up, the shoulders are being raised, and that’s a worry, that’s an alarm bell for me.

“It looks to me at times as if he thinks he’s a bit better than everybody else, and doesn’t need to put in the same work ethic.

“If he is their go-to man in the final third, they’re not going to go anywhere.”

Ironically, he might be the only player to perform better under Russell Martin, and it has certainly worked out for him under Rohl’s tutelage.

Why has Djeidi Gassama’s form completely plummeted?

Russell Martin used Gassama as a winger who solely hugged the touchline, with their main aim being to drive at the opposition defence.

Rohl’s system is much less direct in that sense, and Gassama’s performances have certainly taken a hit as he plays slightly closer to whichever striker starts.

Of course, the league results are much better with the German in charge, although it’s clear to see that the 22-year-old has completely lost the spark which saw him thrive at the start of the season.

If the Bears were able to secure a profit on Gassama, then it might be in their best interest to recoup some of the funds that were recklessly splashed in the summer.
