'That's what they've told me' - Tom English shares what he's now been told on Rangers transfers
Rangers may have to rethink their January transfer plans after the win against Celtic on Saturday.
Danny Rohl’s Rangers travelled to Celtic Park for a high-stakes Old Firm derby clash that had all the weight of the Scottish Premiership league title riding on it.
After going behind early in the contest, the Gers fought back courtesy of a Youssef Chermiti second-half brace before Mikey Moore made it 3-1.
Wilfried Nancy hasn’t had a great start at Celtic, and to every Rangers supporter’s delight, Rohl may have just put the final nail in the Frenchman’s coffin.
BBC Scotland reporter Tom English, speaking before the game kicked off at Celtic Park, revealed more details on Rangers‘ January transfer ambitions.
Tom English says Rangers are ready to spend again in January
Chermiti has been slammed for poor performances, but his heroics against the Hoops may have just been the turning point for his career at Ibrox.
Rangers have been linked with more forwards ahead of the January transfer window, and that may be what Rohl gets, regardless of numerous surprising Celtic Park showings.
- Moore’s goal was his first in five games
- Chermiti bagged his first-ever Rangers brace versus Celtic
- There have been suggestions to let the two forwards leave Ibrox in January
While speaking on BBC Radio Scotland before kick-off, English explained more about what he’s heard about Rangers’ stance on the January transfer window.
English said: “Yeah, that’s what they’ve told me [a busy window], let’s see how they back that up with action. The firm, firm message from Rangers is that they’re not done, and they know they have a lot to do.
“They accept that some of the signings have not worked out, but they are not going to cry over it, they’re just going to hold their nerve and go again.“
Things can change fast in football, but the exploits at Celtic Park may narrow down Rangers’ transfer targets.
Danny Rohl’s Thelo Aasgaard half-time hooking may be telling
Thelo Aasgaard has had a turbulent time since arriving in Glasgow this summer on a permanent deal from Luton Town.
He has managed to provide a goal contribution in each of his last three games for the Bears, but Rohl decided to take the Norwegian off at halftime against Celtic.
The midfielder struggled to get into what was the biggest contest of Rangers’ season, as everything went for the Gers once the 23-year-old was off the field.
Mohamed Diomande was tenacious when he was introduced, but even he has an uncertain future at Ibrox.
Rangers have been linked to Jens Hjerto-Dahl, a midfield option that could compete with Aasgaard from January onwards.
