Thomas Frank has Arsenal to thank for avoiding Tottenham sack – this is why
Thomas Frank is still being backed by the Tottenham hierarchy despite his horrific start to life in North London.
Frank has lost the support of the Tottenham fans over the past few weeks, with poor results and performance creating a toxic atmosphere around the club.
Spurs currently sit down in 14th in the Premier League table, picking up just 27 points from their first 21 games of the season.
Tottenham were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa last Saturday, losing 2-1 to Unai Emery’s side in North London.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Arsenal could be the reason that Frank is keeping his job.
How Arsenal are helping Thomas Frank keep his job
Many assumed that Frank was in line for the sack long ago, but for now it seems that his position at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is relatively safe.
According to The Telegraph, Vinai Venkatesham’s past experiences at Arsenal may be helping the Dane avoid the sack.
Venkatesham spent almost 15 years at Spurs’ North London rivals, in a variety of different roles.
Most notably, the 44-year-old was chief executive when Mikel Arteta was under huge fan pressure at Arsenal, deciding against sacking the Spaniard, which ultimately proved to be the right decision.
These experiences have reportedly influenced the way Venkatesham is approaching the problems he faces at Tottenham right now, and could keep Frank in his job.

Venkatesham knows the benefits of sticking by an under-pressure manager better than anyone, and could be set to repeat the trick with the former Brentford boss.
Thomas Frank doesn’t have long at Tottenham
Despite Venkatesham clearly wanting to avoid the dismissal of Frank, if Tottenham’s poor form continues he may be left with no choice.
Ange Postecoglou was sacked last season after Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League, and that was even after guiding the Lilywhites to their first piece of major silverware since 2008.
Frank is almost certainly not going to bring a major trophy back to North London, and with his side sitting 14th, his job is surely in danger if improvements aren’t made.
The Dane looks likely to get the rest of the campaign to turn the situation around, but if he fails to haul Spurs into a European spot, he looks destined for the sack.
