Tottenham defender has deal terminated with move to English club now on the cards

Thomas Frank is looking to offload the unwanted players in his Tottenham squad during the January transfer window.

Brennan Johnson has already joined Crystal Palace for a fee of £35million, after falling down the pecking order in North London.

Johnson scored the winner for Tottenham in the Europa League final just seven months ago, but started just six matches under Frank in the first half of this season.

With the Welsh winger already out the door, Spurs could now turn their attention to sanctioning a centre-back exit.

Tottenham recall Alfie Dorrington from Aberdeen

Alfie Dorrington had a successful loan spell at Aberdeen last season, spending the second half of the campaign north of the border.

The defender made 12 appearances in the league, as well as playing a key role in the Dons’ shock Scottish Cup final triumph over Celtic.

Dorrington returned to Aberdeen on loan over the summer, but has failed to hit the same heights this term.

Jimmy Thelin’s side have had a difficult campaign so far, sitting eighth in the Scottish Premiership, and the Tottenham youngster has made just three league starts.

According to Alasdair Gold, Spurs have made the decision to recall Dorrington, and will look to loan him out to a different club in the January transfer window.

There a reportedly various Championship and League One sides looking to bring in the 20-year-old for the remainder of the campaign.

Worrying loan trend emerging at Tottenham

Dorrington is far from the only Tottenham loanee who has struggled away from North London this season.

Jamie Donley was also recalled by Spurs halfway through his loan spell at Stoke City, after making just four Championship appearances for The Potters.

Donley has now been sent to Oxford for the remainder of the season, but an option to buy has been included in the deal, meaning the attacker could leave permanently in the summer.

Luka Vuskovic and Mikey Moore are having more positive seasons away from Tottenham, but Frank will be disappointed with the number of youngsters struggling to perform out on loan.
