Tottenham have no choice but to step up Alex Scott interest after latest Bournemouth masterclass

Tottenham Hotspur are set to face fierce competition in the race to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in the summer, leaving them with no choice but to move quickly.

Spurs were heavily linked with Scott ahead of the winter transfer window but ultimately did not make an approach, which has already proven to be a mistake.

The talented 22-year-old delivered another eye-catching performance in the Cherries’ 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Friday night, excelling in the centre of the pitch.

He was his side’s driving force as they twice came back from behind to claim a point at Vitality Stadium, ironically against the club said to be in the driving seat for his signature.

Tottenham are already working on their transfer shortlist, and they must make sure that Scott is one of the first names on it. Simply, they cannot afford to miss out on him again.

Surprisingly, Scott was not included in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, which was confirmed mere hours before Bournemouth took on United on the south coast.

But he responded magnificently and dominated the midfield, often getting the better of both Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in a tireless, lung-busting display.

The former Bristol City man completed 62 passes, more than any other player on the pitch, and also created two chances for his team-mates throughout the 90 minutes.

Scott notched 11 defensive contributions, boasting a 100 per cent duel success rate.

With Bournemouth trailing 2-1 in the second half, the midfielder came inches away from equalising with a stunning strike from distance, which cracked against the woodwork.

Spurs reportedly remained interested in Scott in November, having also been in the market for him before he completed his £25million switch to the Cherries in 2023.

But after his latest heroics, they will have to beat off a host of their rivals to seal the deal. Admittedly, this will not be easy with their Premier League status still unknown.

Scott would complement Lucas Bergvall – but there’s a catch

The prospect of Scott and Lucas Bergvall linking up for Tottenham next season will have supporters licking their lips, but there are currently too many unknowns at the club.

Despite a resurgence of late under Igor Tudor, Spurs are still just one point above the relegation zone, and Scott may not be too keen to join if they drop into the Championship.

Bergvall’s future at Tottenham could also come into question in this worst-case scenario, Chelsea and Aston Villa having both made concrete enquiries during the winter window.

Clearly, then, Spurs’ transfer ambitions rely heavily on results over the coming weeks.
