Tottenham make eleventh-hour transfer request after medical already complete for midfielder deal

Tottenham have hit a snag on a transfer exit for young midfielder Callum Olusesi.

Olusesi has been in and around the Tottenham first-team in recent weeks, largely due to the injury situation Thomas Frank is dealing with in midfield.

The 18-year-old central midfielder was an unused substitute for Spurs’ Champions League games against Frankfurt, Dortmund, Slavia Prague, Monaco and Bodo Glimt respectively.

He’s also made one Premier League matchday squad this season too, as he was named on the bench for Tottenham’s 0-0 draw away at Brentford on New Year’s Day.

Tottenham demand holding up Callum Olusesi’s Serie A switch

Evidently then, Olusesi is held in high regard around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the England youth international seemingly having a bright future ahead of him.

Indeed, it was even reported this week that Tottenham have turned down bids for Olusesi, with the likes of Hoffenheim and PSV understood to have seen offers of around £6million knocked back.

However, a breakthrough had been made on Saturday, as Serie A side Torino have reportedly agreed a loan deal for Olusesi, with the youngster even having completed a medical with them.

The framework of the deal is also understood to include a permanent option for Torino to purchase Olusesi, but it’s this element of the transfer that has now caused the switch to hit a snag.

As per a report from Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham are said to be asking for the deal to be done in pound sterling as opposed to euros, which is understood to be complicating the transfer.

The report goes onto state that Olusesi is ‘desperate’ to make the move to Serie A, and that there is still the potential for the issue to be ironed out before Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline.

Tottenham are taking major gamble with Olusesi deal

Having only signed a long-term contract extension until 2029 back in April of last year, Tottenham clearly feel as though Olusesi could have a big future in N17.

So, agreeing to a deal that sees Torino have the option to sign him permanently, especially when there’s no rush to sell him, presents a major risk for future transfer regret.

Olusesi is clearly a talented young midfielder, and although there is plenty of competition in that department in the Lilywhites’ squad at present, that may not be the case over the next few years.

He’s also one of their own academy talents, and so if he was given more time to develop in North London, Spurs could be in a position to bank major pure profits on him in the future that could massively help with PSR too.
