Tottenham to seal nick-of-time deal for Maghnes Akliouche after shock Monaco announcement

Tottenham will be forced to act late if they want to sign AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche.

Joe Lewis has shown that he will back Spurs in the transfer window, but the underperformance of Thomas Frank may have put a halt to new deals.

Regardless, the Tottenham boss seems like he could still be given plenty more time to turn things around at N17, which means he should still be backed heading into the final stages of the window.

The Lilywhites are short in the final third after selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace and losing Mohammed Kudus to injury.

However, Akliouche is someone that Tottenham have kept their eyes on for a while, with the suggestions now pointing towards the Frenchman’s exit from Monaco.

Tottenham have a genuine interest in Akliouche, and it would take a significant bid to pry the 23-year-old away from France on deadline day.

As highlighted by Sofascore, the Monaco star has a positive average rating of 6.98, while proving to be a consistent source of goals and assists in 19 games.

However, the winger has started 17 of those 19 matches, with his benching on Saturday raising eyebrows at a very coincidental time.

Monaco beat Rennes 4-0 in their Ligue 1 clash this weekend, as Akliouche was benched for only the second time of the league campaign.

He was introduced at halftime and scored what could be his parting gift to Monaco fans.

Late exits that could tempt Tottenham move for Akliouche

Lewis has money to spend, no doubt about that, but he may be waiting for more sales before making a big move for Akliouche in the eleventh hour.

Radu Dragusin could still leave with a host of clubs in Italy interested in signing the centre-back permanently.

The Lilywhites could rake in around £20million for the defender, that’s if they sanction a permanent exit, as a loan move has also been suggested.

Not only Dragusin, but Randal Kolo Muani’s potential return to Juventus could free up some more wages for Akliouche.

The clock is ticking, however, and a deal for the Monaco star may very well go right down to the wire.
