Tottenham urged to sack Thomas Frank over comments immediately after Borussia Dortmund win
Thomas Frank may have granted himself a stay of execution after Tottenham’s win over Borussia Dortmund.
Following Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham last Saturday, many were convinced that Frank was going to be sacked by Spurs.
Fast-forward to Tuesday night, and Spurs’ 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, which has eased the growing pressure on Frank – for now.
Whether this vital victory – that moves Tottenham into the top eight of the Champions League ahead of Wednesday night’s fixtures – is a turning point in Frank‘s N17 tenure remains to be seen.
Understandably, one win won’t scrub away the fact that Spurs still sit 14th in the Premier League, as Frank still has a lot of convincing to do at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Thomas Frank drops confident verdict after Dortmund win
Tottenham have been on the wrong end of a lot of close games in recent weeks.
Back-to-back 2-1 defeats against West Ham and Aston Villa, and a 3-2 loss away at Bournemouth came after Spurs posted consecutive draws against Sunderland and Brentford respectively.
And for Frank, as frustrating as this run of form has been, has told him that his team have actually been doing a lot of things right, but perhaps haven’t got the bounce of the ball when they’ve needed it.
Speaking in his post-match press conference straight after the Dortmund win, Frank was keen to reiterate that point, saying: “The players are giving everything, that is a good sign about the coach.
“I keep saying it but this is the eighth game in a row where we have consistently performed quite well, but haven’t been able to get the margins with us.

Of course, the triple contact of Dom’s goal going in, whereas we didn’t get that against Sunderland, Bournemouth and West Ham where we could have won all three.
“We’ve got to keep doing the same things, keep believing and we know things will turn.”
Tottenham fans not buying Frank’s comments
Having retained the backing of Tottenham’s decision-makers, the vast majority of the pressure being applied on Frank is coming from the fans.
Understandably so to, as they pay their hard-earned money to follow their team, and so far, the results and performances under Frank have largely not been good enough.
It’s going to take considerably more than a win against a 10-men Dortmund side for Frank to convince them he’s the man to lead Spurs forward, and a lot of supporters aren’t buying his post-match words either.
The particular quote of “I think this is the eighth game in a row where we’ve done a lot of things right” has certainly not gone down well, with numerous fans believing it is the type of comment that shows he is not the right man for the job.
“If there was a quote for why we cannot back him, this is it,” said one frustrated Tottenham fan.
“Just when he built up the tiniest scrap of goodwill,” said another Spurs supporter.
