Tottenham would find themselves back at square one with Roberto De Zerbi appointment
Tottenham Hotspur would find themselves back at square one if they were to appoint Roberto De Zerbi.
The Telegraph reported on Monday that the Italian would be interested in taking charge over the summer, should they remain in the Premier League.
De Zerbi recently left French giants Marseille by mutual consent, after making the move to the south of France from Brighton in 2024.
Tottenham remain locked in a relegation battle after Igor Tudor has failed to turn things around following Thomas Frank’s dismal spell at the helm.
With doubts cast over Tudor’s future until the end of the season, Spurs are left thinking about both the coming months and their long-term future.

Roberto De Zerbi is a fiery character who Tottenham don’t need
With De Zerbi mentioned as a name interested in taking charge, the former Brighton boss would be an intriguing prospect for both the right and wrong reasons.
The 46-year-old’s time in France came to an end last month, after the outspoken Italian had multiple clashes with the club’s hierarchy and players in what can now be deemed as typical De Zerbi style.
Club Appointed In charge until Matches Points per match Marseille 01/07/24 11/02/26 69 1.81 Brighton 18/09/22 30/06/24 89 1.51 Shakhtar Donetsk 01/07/21 11/07/22 30 2.17 Sassuolo 01/07/18 30/06/21 120 1.38 Benevento 23/10/27 30/06/18 29 0.72 Palermo 06/09/16 30/11/16 13 0.38 Foggia 01/07/14 14/08/16 90 1.86 Darfo Boario 19/11/13 30/06/14 22 0.91
He would take over from Graham Potter at Brighton in 2022, leading the Seagulls to the Europa League, and play some of the best football that the Premier League has seen in recent years.
And quite archetypal of his managerial career, things fell apart in season two, with De Zerbi leaving Brighton for Marseille ahead of the 2024-25 season after his side finished 11th in the standings.
While his time at Shakhtar came to an end in 2022 due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and thus, won’t be majorly considered among his list of jobs, it has to be acknowledged that De Zerbi has not lasted more than three years in a specific job.
Between the years of 2018 and 2021, his Sassuolo side proved one of the most fascinating teams in Italy as the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Domenico Berardi flourished under him.
But since then, he has not helped himself when it comes to talking himself out of a job at both Brighton and Marseille – something fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have seen before with Antonio Conte.
Given his outspoken nature and the poor organisation at Spurs, De Zerbi and Tottenham would be a disastrous marriage that could explode at any time.
Roberto De Zerbi’s outspoken nature will not fix Tottenham
The North London club are in disarray, and this has been the case for years, stretching back to Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in 2019.
Since then, the likes of Jose Mourinho and the aforementioned Conte have been and gone, and not even critical comments from the success-ridden pair have been able to spark change at Tottenham – a similar attitude from De Zerbi would be even more of a disaster given the respective reputations of Conte and Mourinho.
Current boss Tudor has also been critical of the overall situation, while his side is now left with just a handful of matches to secure their Premier League survival.

Spurs as a club need a complete reset.
De Zerbi has proven himself as a fantastic coach capable of producing some beautiful football, though the lack of longevity in his career is a big red flag for a club looking to lay the foundations of a new era.
Tottenham are a mess, and it could get much worse if they were to bring in someone as outspoken and as fiery as De Zerbi.
