“Travel and medical next” – Ademola Lookman chooses Atlético Madrid in ₦68 billion winter switch

Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has finally settled his future after weeks of intense transfer speculation, Soccernet.ng reports. 

Spanish LaLiga club Atlético Madrid have emerged as the next destination for the former Everton forward in a major winter deal.

The Nigerian international is set to complete a €40 million move from Atalanta after respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that all key terms have been agreed between the clubs and the player.

“Ademola Lookman to Atlético Madrid, here we go! The agreement is in place on every detail…Atlético, planning now for travel and medical next for the Nigerian,” wrote the Italian football expert on his X page.

Atlético Madrid have agreed a deal worth €40 million (₦68 billion at current exchange rates) for Lookman, made up of a €35 million fixed fee and €5 million in performance-related add-ons payable to Atalanta.

The 28-year-old has already accepted a long-term contract with Diego Simeone’s side after making his final decision late on Friday night.

The La Liga club are now arranging Lookman’s travel and medical tests, with an official announcement expected once formalities are completed.

His arrival is seen as a major boost to Atlético’s attacking options as they push for domestic and European success in the second half of the season.

Lookman’s Atalanta Journey Ends After Europa League Heroics

Lookman leaves Atalanta after a hugely successful spell in Italy, having joined the Bergamo club in 2022 and grown into one of Serie A’s most dangerous attackers.

He played a central role in their historic Europa League triumph, where he earned plaudits for his positive showing.

The Nigeria star’s move also ends interest from other suitors, including Fenerbahçe, who had been locked in talks with Atalanta before Atlético stepped in with a decisive offer.
