View: 87% Everton ace holds key to victory after what's happened before vs Brentford

Idrissa Gueye could be the go-to man once again for Everton as they prepare for a trip to face Brentford.

The international break arguably came at the worst possible time for the Toffees after a terrific Hill Dickinson Stadium win.

A 3-0 victory against Chelsea was arguably the best of the season and has raised expectations of potential European qualification this season.

That aim is also in mind for Keith Andrews’ side, who are ready to host the Blues in just over a week’s time at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Things won’t be easy for Everton away to Brentford, but Gueye could prove to be the difference-maker in the capital.

Everton have patchy record vs Brentford

The Merseyside faithful won’t want to be reminded of what happened the last time the Bees faced off with the L4 outfit.

An Igor Thiago hattrick helped the London club on their way to a 4-2 win on Merseyside in one of the most disappointing days since the stadium move.

That was a first defeat against the Bees since 2022, although wins haven’t exactly been free-flowing for the Blues.

There have been 11 meetings between the two sides, and Everton have four wins, Brentford have three, and there have been four draws.

The last win for the Merseysiders came in April 2024, when a one-goal difference was enough to seal three points at Goodison Park.

Gueye has been important for Everton this season, just as he was nearly two years ago, as he netted the winner.

Idrissa Gueye has previous form vs Brentford

It may have been 24 months ago now, but the Senegal international won’t have forgotten his goal and victory over Brentford.

The 34-year-old started alongside James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the middle of the park and put in a shift.

Gueye found the net on 60 minutes, before being taken off 18 minutes later after an excellent showing on Merseyside.

He maintained an 87 per cent pass accuracy throughout and also scored with one of his two shots on the day.

That was all added to by two tackles and seven recoveries, while he also won seven duels on the day to help the Toffees on their way to a clean sheet.

Looking ahead to the 2026 version of this clash, Gueye needs to be on top of his game and show his class for the Blues once again.
