James Garner could make his England debut in the upcoming international break after the Everton midfielder was called up by Thomas Tuchel – and he has every chance of nailing down a regular spot.

The 2026 World Cup is on the horizon, and Garner’s form has come at the perfect time as Tuchel has recognised his importance to Everton.

The 25-year-old has been impressive under David Moyes, becoming one of the first names on the Toffees’ team sheet in 2025-26.

Garner has created 44 chances, registered 41 shots and completed 50 long balls in the top flight this campaign.

Moyes has got the best out of him in midfield, while his versatility as a right-back will also be something that Tuchel considers when he names his 26-man squad for the World Cup.

However, as the stats clearly show, he is more than able to impress for England in the next week, which could lead to a dream call-up in June.

Garner is ahead of the competition when it comes to England’s midfield options

In terms of midfielders, only Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson are considered as guarantees for the Three Lions squad, which leaves him with a good chance of being called up.

There aren’t many English players who can offer as much as Garner, particularly when it comes to his calm nature on the ball.

Tuchel has surely seen enough from him to see that he’s ready to play on the biggest stage in football, and in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Chelsea, he reinforced that point.

Garner brings something unique to the England squad, and it’s hard to argue that he doesn’t merit a place in the team.

Whether he seizes this opportunity is a different question, but he has no better chance to do so than at this moment in time.
