View: Everton given golden transfer opportunity they can't turn down with target now free agent
Everton have a golden chance to replace Seamus Coleman after Kieran Trippier confirmed he will leave Newcastle United when his contract runs down this summer.
The 35-year-old right-back sealed his switch to St James’ Park from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 as the club’s first signing following their Saudi takeover.
But after leading the Magpies to their first domestic trophy in 70 years and playing a crucial role in their Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025, he will now move on.
Trippier will no doubt be inundated with offers at the end of the campaign.
However, with Everton targeting at least one new defender, swooping for the veteran would make perfect sense, especially with Coleman’s future on Merseyside still uncertain.

Why Everton must sign Kieran Trippier
While Trippier will be fully focused on helping Newcastle finish the campaign as strongly as possible, his attention may soon stray to his next destination.
The experienced stalwart is now free to speak to other clubs, having ticked into the final six months of his deal, and Everton must ensure that they are at the front of the queue.
Kieran Trippier 25-26 (PL only) Statistic Appearances 18 Minutes 1,461 Goals 0 Assists 1 Chances created 27 Successful crosses (%) 33.3 Total duels won (%) 44.6
Too often, David Moyes has used makeshift right-backs this season. It has affected balance and tactical flexibility, while also dragging players stronger elsewhere out of position.
As it stands, Coleman will leave Hill Dickinson Stadium as a free agent at the exact same time Trippier will enter the market, making this one-in, out-out deal a no-brainer.
Signing Trippier would strengthen Moyes’ squad and buy The Friedkin Group time to source a long-term successor, while also allowing Jake O’Brien to return to centre-back.
Everton are targeting Arsenal’s Ben White, according to reports, but the 28-year-old’s restricted minutes and questionable performances make Trippier the better of the two.
What next for Seamus Coleman?
Clearly, Coleman’s days on Merseyside look numbered.
The 37-year-old has made more than 400 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2009-10, following his bargain £60,000 move from Irish outfit Sligo.
However, as the campaigns have progressed, his influence has waned. This term, he has played just five times, including three brief cameos in the Premier League.
There has still been no breakthrough over fresh terms, suggesting that the hierarchy have begrudgingly decided to allow him to move on after a glittering 17-year stay.
