View: Everton look set to finally benefit from Finch Farm youngsters as new appointment nears
Everton are closing in on the appointment of Dean Rastrick to become the club’s new academy director.
Norwich’s current head of football development has been in talks over a switch to Hill Dickinson Stadium in the past couple of days, but Patrick Boyland’s update on X shows a deal is close to completion.
The move is not yet finalised, but there is a growing expectation for Rastrick to soon lead operations for the academy at Finch Farm.
The success of the Blues’ academy has been questioned recently, and there is a big reason why this could be one of the biggest under-the-radar transfers that the club have made in recent years.

Finch Farm has been failing to provide Everton with success; this is why
One of the main problems that has been seen at Everton is the lack of successful loan moves for their youngsters, barring Harrison Armstrong.
While it could be argued that injuries have worked against the Toffees, more often than not, failed loan moves are sanctioned.
Rastrick’s potential arrival will see an extra footballing brain be able to oversee the talent at Finch Farm and calculate the exact best moves for some of Everton’s brightest prospects.

But there has also been an issue with the actual talent coming into David Moyes’ first team. The Everton boss has admitted that he will give chances to youngsters, but only if they prove themselves.
Rastrick will be able to help filter out the best talent at Finch Farm, while also scouting potential gems that could one day wear the Everton shirt on the big stage.

Who could benefit most from Dean Rastrick’s appointment?
That being said, Rastrick can also help the current batch of youth gems who are making waves at Finch Farm, desperate to impress Moyes and Co.
The appointment would most likely help align tactics and values within the youth ranks with those of Everton’s senior team, helping to ensure a seamless transition in training and eventually first-team matches.

George Pickford and Braiden Graham are the two names who right now have the most hype around them after impressive performances this season.
They are just two of many talented players down at Finch Farm who are waiting to be unearthed, as Rastrick could would closely with Paul Tait to help their dreams come true.
Who knows? Next season, we could see a big shift in the use of the academy.
