View: Everton need to act quickly to sign midfielder as £12m bid expected from Premier League rivals
Everton are understood to be one of the clubs that are chasing Hayden Hackney’s signature.
The 23-year-old has shone in the Championship with Middlesbrough and has been touted with a move to the Premier League.
Crystal Palace have made the midfielder their number one target for the summer transfer window, according to a report from The Telegraph on 8 May.
It states that the South London side have identified him as a player who could improve their engine room and £12million bids are expected when the market reopens.
If Everton want to sign Hackney, they will have rivals to secure a deal, including the team currently managed by Oliver Glasner.

Why Everton need to move fast to sign Hackney
Everton need to act quickly to sign the Teeside star, as there is significant interest in his services.
Palace are just one suitor, with the report also mentioning Ipswich Town and Wolves as sides that have previously tried to purchase him.

With such a low fee, with his contract expiring in one year’s team, the supposed fee represents a real bargain for whoever picks him up.
Why Everton may have the advantage in Hackney race
Everton may be in the best position to sign Hackney as they can convince him to come to Merseyside with several factors.
Palace may have Europa League football next season, if they win the Conference League title, but they are set for chaos in the summer, with Glasner leaving his post.
Ipswich would be a strange choice, as they may well go right back down to the second tier, if their recruitment is not perfect.
Hackney’s stats this season Championship Matches 38 Goals 5 Assists 7 Pass accuracy 86% Key passes 2.2 Ground duels won 48% Aerial duels won 41%
Wolves will be in the division that he currently plays in, so they are surely out of the race for his signature.
David Moyes‘ side can offer a stable top-flight environment and still have a chance of qualifying for Europe at the end of the season.
They also should have an opening in midfield in the coming months, as Idrissa Gueye is getting older and Moyes does not fully trust the likes of Merlin Rohl and Tim Iroegbunam.
That leaves a gap in the side that Hackney could come straight in and plug, and the chance for regular first-team football could be a bargaining chip for the Blues.
