View: Everton player may seek immediate exit as TFG to learn costly lesson

Merlin Rohl watched on from the bench as Everton beat Burnley in the Premier League last week.

Hill Dickinson Stadium witnessed a rare victory from the home side as David Moyes got the better of Scott Parker on 3 March.

The Toffees were dominant for most of the 90 minutes as James Tarkowski and Kiernan Dewsbury Hall found the back of the net on either side of the break.

With Rohl failing to come off the bench for the seventh consecutive game in a row, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 23-year-old seek an immediate exit from the Merseyside outfit in the summer.

Everton make mistake with Marlin Rohl transfer obligation

Rohl signed for the Toffees on a season-long loan from Freiburg, with the deal including an obligation to buy for around £17.3million.

The Germany Under-21 international will be a Blues player no matter what at the end of the season, which is something The Friedkin Group may be regretting right now at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It would’ve arguably been much better for the Merseysiders to include an option to buy the midfielder or add some clauses in the obligation.

Moyes doesn’t seem to trust Rohl and that may not change anytime soon.

Idrissa Gueye, James Garner and Dewsbury-Hall are clearly the Scottish manager’s preferred midfield trio, leaving no space for the likes of the German ace.

TFG will certainly learn a costly lesson from the deal with Freiburg and should be reluctant to include mandatory clauses in future deals.

Friedkin Group transfer failure on show at Hill Dickinson Stadium

While Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish have undoubtedly been brilliant additions at the Toffees, their recruitment under TFG has been hit and miss.

Rohl, Tyler Dibling, Adam Aznou and Tyrique George have all failed to live up to expectations at Everton.

The jury is also still out on Thierno Barry despite his recent purple patch, with Beto staking his claim as the first-choice number nine in recent matches.

With Moyes clearly left without adequate squad depth over the last two transfer windows, the Friedkins haven’t necessarily inspired faith among supporters in L4.
