View: Everton to ramp up plans for Serie A defender as another target in 'advanced talks' with PL club

Everton may need to focus their attention on Juventus star Federico Gatti as the Toffees look set to miss out on Marcos Senesi.

The Friedkin Group look fairly powerless to do anything about Senesi’s move to Tottenham, which is said to be progressing well.

The Bournemouth centre-back is set to become a free agent this summer, and would have fit the bill for what David Moyes is looking for, with the Blues also missing out on a cheap transfer masterclass.

There is one stumbling block in Senesi’s proposed move, as it currently depends on Tottenham’s ability to maintain their Premier League status.

However, Everton don’t have time to waste with Gatti, who could be the next best option.

Reasons for Federico Gatti’s potential sale will interest Everton

Senesi isn’t 100 per cent guaranteed to join Tottenham due to the uncertainty of their top-flight status, but even then, the Toffees would have to battle it out with Leeds and other interested Premier League clubs.

The centre-back has been in fine form for the Cherries these last two seasons, and would have no doubt been some pick up by the Friedkin Group.

However, Juventus are said to be open to selling Gatti this summer due to financial reasons, as the Toffees may be able to strike some shrewd business anyway.

According to David Ornstein, this Friday, Tottenham are in “advanced talks” for Senesi, who will walk away from the Vitality as a free agent this summer, but nothing is finalised yet.

Everton have reported interest in Gatti, which dates back to 2023, and it may be finally time for the defender to leave Serie A for the Premier League this summer.

Everton still unlikely to sell centre-backs; here’s why

Everton have the likes of James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O’Brien, and Michael Keane on their books heading into the summer window.

Branthwaite would have most likely demanded transfer interest this summer, but a season of injury issues will most likely keep clubs at bay.

O’Brien has played the majority of the campaign as a right-back, but with the Toffees close to European qualification, his versatility could be vital for different competitions next season.

Keane and Tarkowski are unlikely to leave Hill Dickinson, while the need for another central defender is still there.

Gatti isn’t a priority, but if the Friedkin Group see an extreme need for a new centre-half, then the Italian could be a good option instead of Senesi.
