View: Forward axed as Moyes takes a gamble - Everton predicted vs Arsenal

David Moyes could leave Beto out of the team when Everton travel to Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

Everton have won their last two Premier League games against Newcastle and Burnley, and they’re aiming to win three on the bounce for the first time since May 2025.

However, they face arguably their toughest game of the season against Mikel Arteta’s side, who still have aspirations of winning a historic quadruple.

The Gunners have the best defence in the Premier League, and Moyes may feel that Thierno Barry is more suited to playing against Gabriel and William Saliba at the Emirates.

And if he does start ahead of Beto, Everton’s hopes of beating Arsenal would definitely increase.

Thierno Barry to replace Beto at Emirates Stadium

Beto may have scored against Newcastle, but his chances of starting at the Emirates are slim.

The 28-year-old fired home from close range to put Everton 2-1 up at St James’ Park after Dwight McNeil’s long-range strike was spilt by Nick Pope.

However, he had a quiet game in the following match versus Burnley in L4, and Moyes will likely revert to using Barry as his number nine.

The Frenchman now has six league goals for the Toffees, and as he was rested in the last two games, he’ll be desperate to return to the starting line-up.

Barry needs to start scoring at a more consistent rate, but his strengths in the air could unsettle the Arsenal defence and allow the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to flourish.

Given the fact Everton won comfortably last time out, Moyes is unlikely to make any other changes to the side, meaning McNeil will be given another opportunity to continue his resurgence in form after nearly leaving on deadline day.

Another chance for McNeil to shine

McNeil’s £20million move to Crystal Palace was called off after the Eagles failed to submit the relevant paperwork on time for the player’s transfer.

Moyes hadn’t initially placed much faith in the 26-year-old this season, but he has started the last two games and performed excellently on the right wing.

His long-range effort led to Beto’s goal at St James’ Park, and he played a big part in the build-up to Dewsbury Hall’s strike when the Toffees beat Burnley.

He’ll be up against Arsenal left-back Piero Hincapie, who has excelled for the Gunners through his aggressive style of defending.

However, McNeil has the guile and trickery to catch the Ecuador international off guard, and scoring his first goal of the season against Arsenal would do wonders for his confidence.
