View: Moyes has lost the plot with his latest comments on Everton outcast

David Moyes‘ stance on Everton outcast Tyler Dibling is completely unfair.

The 20-year-old has struggled to make an impact since his £42million move from Southampton last summer, but it has not entirely been his fault.

He has featured just 17 times for the Blues with a total of 513 minutes, failing to register a goal or an assist in that time.

Moyes has now challenged the young winger to do better, if he wants to earn a place in the team, but that is a strange stance.

Everton needs Dibling to become a success, as they can’t afford to waste money on signings who do not work out.

What did Moyes say about Dibling’s time at Everton so far?

Everton boss Moyes clearly still rates Dibling, despite the difficulties that he has endured in his first campaign at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Scotsman is eyeing a big future for the England Under-21 ace, but he believes he is not currently at the level required.

In quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo on 3 May, he said: “It’s where he is. He’ll have to do better, I think. He’ll have to do better in his work and in his training.

“That’s why we are not panicking with it, because of his age. We want him to step up, we are hoping that he’ll improve and next year will be a big year for him to see if he can do that.”

Does Dibling deserve more?

Dibling has not been given a fair shake at things, that is quite clear, from his lack of game time.

When he has been on the pitch, he has given a solid account of himself, in his 14 Premier League appearances, four of which have come in the starting line-up.

The ex-Saints star averages 0.3 shots and 0.3 key passes, while he has completed 48 per cent of his dribble attempts, per data from Sofascore.

Moyes likes his wingers to defend too, and Dibling has clearly tried to do that, with 0.5 tackles, 1.6 balls recovered and 0.3 clearances on a per-game basis.

Moyes has lost the plot with his latest comments, how can the player show what he can do if he cannot even get on the pitch on a regular occasion, as it is totally different compared to training.

He deserves time to prove that he can be a valuable option for the Toffees in the final few weeks of the season, but based on the manager’s words, it does not seem as though he will get it before the end of the campaign.
