View: Pundit rightly blown away by brilliant Tottenham star in defeat vs West Ham
Micky van de Ven still caught the eye after Tottenham managed to lose to West Ham.
Tottenham fell to a 2-1 defeat against West Ham on Saturday as Thomas Frank fell to yet another Tottenham Hotspur Stadium defeat.
There is every chance that Tottenham could now sack Frank after just seven months in charge of the North London club.
The Dane arguably had himself to blame after Mathys Tel was taken off against West Ham before being met by an increasingly hostile atmosphere in N17.
Despite all the frustration surrounding the Lilywhites, van de Ven was able to catch the eye and prove just how good he is.
Micky van de Ven made staggering tackle vs West Ham
Pedro Porro may have struggled defensively against West Ham, but his defensive colleague didn’t face a similar problem.
The Netherlands international has been a consistent force ever since coming in from Wolfsburg and has proven to be a rare successful signing in N17.
Even in recent dark days under Frank, there can still be little complaint aimed towards the centre-half, other than his reaction towards supporters away to Bournemouth.
His passion shouldn’t be used against him, and it was on show once again as he put in a largely excellent performance against the Irons.
Spurs may have lost to West Ham, but van de Ven’s challenge on Crysencio Summerville will live long in the memory as he charged in and won 100 per cent of the ball.
Former Hammers defender Matthew Upson was blown away by the Dutchman as he piled praise on him while speaking via the Premier League world feed.
He said: “It’s a cracking passage of play. Van de Ven with absolute brilliance at one end, nice shot from Bissouma trying to pick out the top corner.
“Here’s the tackle, what a flick around the corner for Summerville, but there he comes like a steam train from absolutely nowhere. He times it to perfection. What a tackle.“

Van de Ven was excellent for Tottenham once again
His challenge on Summerville summed up his game for Spurs. All in.
The centre-back has pace, power and a great footballing IQ that has certainly benefitted Tottenham, but he can’t do everything on his own.
Van de Ven completed the most passes on the pitch against West Ham, with 53 passes of his 57 attempts finding their destination with a 93 per cent accuracy.
He also chipped in with three blocks, six clearances and one interception as he did his utmost to keep the Hammers out.

The defender wasn’t able to do so, but he can still be pleased with his performance on yet another dark day for the Lilywhites.
