View: Tottenham loanee destined for exit this summer as struggles continue

Dane Scarlett has failed to impress since leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Hibernian on loan.

Just a few years ago, Scarlett was widely regarded as one of Spurs’ brightest prospects, and having scored 22 goals in 19 games for the Under-18s back in the 2020-21 season, that reputation seemed warranted.

However, as soon as it became apparent that his development still had some way to go, several loan spells to the EFL followed for the striker, and very few of them worked out.

The 21-year-old managed to score just 10 goals across three separate loan spells at Portsmouth, Ipswich and then Oxford United, before joining Hibernian on loan in the winter.

Tottenham have some big transfer decisions to make this summer, and based on the form he has showcased in Scotland, one of them will be in regard to Scarlett.

How has Dane Scarlett fared for Hibernian?

Not very well, to say the least.

The forward has managed just one assist in the seven appearances he has made for Hibs so far this season, having been named in the starting 11 just four times.

But what will concern Tottenham the most is the lack of impact he has had in games when he has not been scoring the goals to make up for it.

Scarlett has won just 24.2 per cent of his duels in the Scottish Premiership, showcasing the struggles he has had with the physical nature of the game, while also having completed just 25 per cent of his dribbles.

On top of that, he is averaging just one shot on target for every two games that he plays, which is an issue given the role he is expected to play in attack.

Tottenham exit looks inevitable for Scarlett

Spurs have done all they can at this point to give Scarlett time to showcase his worth, but he has failed to do so.

Tottenham, regardless of which division they are in next season, will not have the room or time to keep experimenting with the striker, who is due to turn 22 in just a few days.

A permanent exit this summer would make the most sense for both parties, but especially for Scarlett, who needs to find the way in his own career.
