Mathys Tel has thanked Tottenham Hotspur fans for their “massive support” on Sunday night, as the Frenchman enjoyed one of his best Spurs showings against Aston Villa.

Having not been named in Tottenham’s starting lineup since the 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on 22 March, Tel was given the nod from the off on Sunday.

Roberto De Zerbi decided to place his trust in the Frenchman, who has so far endured another inconsistent campaign in N17.

The Spurs boss was richly rewarded for doing so, however, as the 21-year-old lit up Villa Park with one of his performances of the 2025-26 campaign.

As such, Tel now looks set to play a big part in Tottenham’s remaining three games of their Premier League season.

What did Mathys Tel say after Tottenham win vs Aston Villa?

With the finishing line now within sight, Tottenham have seemingly timed their run down the home straight to perfection.

Out of nowhere, Spurs have now recorded back-to-back wins and are unbeaten in three, and more importantly, sit above the dotted line with West Ham a point below them in 18th.

What’s been hugely promising is that despite Spurs’ lengthy injury list, these last three games have seen so many different players step up and deliver the goods.

Indeed, against Brighton it was Pedro Porro and Xavi Simons on the scoresheet, Wolves it was Joao Palhinha and Villa saw Conor Gallagher and Richarlison find the net respectively.

And whilst Tel didn’t score himself, he did provide the superb cross into the box for Richarlison’s header on Sunday, helping to deliver a huge victory for his side.

Taking to his Instagram after the game, Tel cited the importance of the Villa victory, and also thanked the travelling Tottenham contingent for their support in the West Midlands.

“Important win tonight! Massive support from the fans. Let’s go again,” he said.

How good was Tel in Tottenham’s win vs Aston Villa?

Tel was tipped to shine against Aston Villa, and that the Frenchman did.

He was eventually replaced in added time at the end of the game for Lucas Bergvall, but only after running the Villa defence ragged down the Spurs left all night long.

As per FotMob, Tel created two big chances against the Villans, whilst also taking 54 touches, playing four accurate crosses into the box and only being dispossessed once.

The winger also made six recoveries, one interception, won his only aerial duel attempt and despite winning just one of his 10 ground duels, the sheer volume of duels here shows how much he applied himself in the match.

Overall, this was undoubtedly one of Tel’s best games in a Tottenham shirt, and had his end product been better at times, he could’ve had a handful of assists to his name on Sunday.

Tel’s task now is to maintain this standard of performance for the remainder of the season, as his big Achilles heel in N17 so far has been following up strong showings.
