View: Tottenham youngster has what it takes to strengthen survival hopes, Tudor must take note

Tottenham Hotspur have a gem in Rio Kyerematen, and it’s about time they utilise him.

Igor Tudor has yet to win a game in charge of the North Londoners, though there were some positives to take from their latest draw away to Liverpool.

With that said, Spurs need wins, and it’s become increasingly apparent that the players currently at Tudor’s disposal aren’t at the required standard, nor do they have the right mentality to achieve it.

Tottenham remain at risk of relegation, and in order to avoid it, they need a fresh injection of energy and character, and Kyerematen has shown time and time again that he has what it takes.

Rio Kyerematen impresses for Tottenham Under-21 despite Leeds defeat

Tottenham’s Under-21s have lost three games on the bounce, which is quite a reflection of the current mood in North London across all departments.

Their latest defeat was away to Leeds United, with Rhys Chadwick scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win at the LNER Community Stadium.

As a team, it was another poor performance from Wayne Burnett’s side, but Kyerematen was one of only a few positives.

The 20-year-old completed 90 per cent of his 60 attempted passes, while also creating one chance for his teammates.

He completed four of his seven attempted long balls, while also hitting the target with all but one of his three shots.

Shots (on target)3 (2)
Crosses (completed)4 (1)

Fouls won1

As he has done all season, Kyerematen also offered support defensively, as showcased by the fact he made three tackles and a total of 10 recoveries in the 90 minutes he played.

He’s shown his ability to remain consistent this season, and that in itself deserves to be rewarded.

Why should Tudor promote Kyerematen?

It’s simple. Not only has he showcased his quality, but he would bring a fearless mentality to a side that has been running scared for months.

Kyerematen has impressed regularly in both regards.

The mentality of the so-called big-name players has been a big reason behind their downfall, and the addition of someone who just wants to make his mark will do nothing but bring rewards for him and for Tottenham.

Tudor has to realise that before it’s too late.
