'Who cares?' - Sutton slams Rohl for what he says at Rangers, Kris Boyd agrees

Danny Rohl had no reason to respond to Luke McCowan before Rangers drew 2-2 against Celtic in the William Hill Premiership on Sunday.

Before the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on 1 March, the Hoops midfielder hinted at them being the best team in Scotland, with the German manager subsequently hitting back in his pre-match press conference, hinting at the number of defeats Martin O’Neill’s team have suffered.

Chris Sutton has slammed Rohl for getting himself into that situation and believes the Gers supporters should be worried about it.

Kris Boyd also agrees with the assessment and feels the 36-year-old head coach had no need to comment on what McCowan had said, and it eventually came back to bite him.

Rangers fans have one criticism of Danny Rohl after Celtic draw

Rohl has turned the tide since replacing Russell Martin at the Gers and deserves credit for getting them back into the title race.

While the German manager has got a lot of things right at Ibrox, supporters have been left frustrated with his inability to dominate matches consistently.

While the first half against Celtic was impressive, a couple of changes at the break from O’Neill led to the Light Blues’ capitulation.

Rohl didn’t have any answers for the Hoops in the second half and the Govan side’s inability to put in convincing performances will surely be a concern for fans in G51.

Speaking on The Warm Up on 2 March, Sutton said, “What would worry me if I were a Rangers fan is the stuff Rohl got involved in with McCowan. Who cares? You come out and say we’re the best team. What worries me is, why is Rohl even getting involved in there?”

Boyd responded, “There was no need for me. No need.”

Nicolas Raskin and Tochi Chukwuani were in control of the midfield in the opening 45 minutes against Celtic, but Reo Hatate’s arrival changed that.

The Japan international replaced Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the break, changing the dynamics of the Old Firm derby.

In the second half, Rangers were unable to cope with the Hoops’ intensity and Mohamed Diomande’s arrival at around the hour mark didn’t help matters for Rohl.

O’Neill will surely stick with the team that dominated the Light Blues after half-time, and the German manager will have to find a way to counter it in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup at home on 8 March.
