Wilfried Gnonto’s exit surely sealed after Leeds United snub in FA Cup clash vs West Ham

Wilfried Gnonto does not appear to have a future under Daniel Farke after Leeds United clashed with West Ham in the FA Cup.

The 22-year-old has started just four Premier League games this season, with another three in the FA Cup, only coming on as a substitute in the Whites’ Carabao Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Farke’s treatment of the young star has baffled a lot of supporters, with the talented winger also struggling to hold down a starting position during Leeds’ Championship promotion-winning campaign.

Gnonto has long been linked with a transfer elsewhere, and talks of an exit this summer are likely to only get louder after being left out of the starting lineup in Leeds’ FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday, 5 April.

Wilfried Gnonto only given substitute appearance vs West Ham

Although the young winger made a positive impact at the London Stadium, it was clear that Farke doesn’t quite trust him enough, bringing him on in the final 20 minutes of normal time.

Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were both on target for the Whites, but with two late strikes from Mateus Fernandes and Axel Disasi, the Whites needed penalties to proceed to the FA Cup semi-finals.

Gnonto nearly flicked home a timely winner before the shootout, but had to watch his effort dribble past the far post, missing an opportunity to win over his manager.

Winning the game could have changed his fortunes at Elland Road, but even after putting in a huge defensive shift in East London, his future looks set in stone after being left out of the lineup.

Daniel Farke has made his feelings clear at Elland Road

Despite being contracted at Elland Road until the summer of 2028, a lot of supporters are resigned to losing the 22-year-old, having fallen completely out of favour with the manager.

Farke is also set to welcome back Largie Ramazani, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph, adding yet more reinforcement to Leeds’ forward line, but even more choice about who stays and who leaves.

If Gnonto has no hope of breaking into the starting lineup for an FA Cup game, with Farke rather overplaying his bigger names than resting them, what hope would he have next season of playing?

Football Insider revealed last month that Leeds will accept an offer for Gnonto, and thanks to Farke, he could be one of the first names out of the exit doors once the summer window swings open.
