Yang Hyun-Jun: Stats show why Celtic star can hold head high after Dundee United defeat

Yang Hyun-Jun was the only Celtic star who put in a decent display in their shock 2-0 defeat to Dundee United on Sunday.

The Hoops suffered one of their biggest setbacks in the Scottish Premiership title race as they fell five points behind Heart of Midlothian over the weekend and down to third in the table.

It was simply an awful performance, with the majority of the team putting in simply unacceptable displays.

However, perhaps the only player that met the standard required was Yang, who dominated the right side of the pitch throughout.

Below, Football Insider has examined why Yang can hold his head high despite the shock Celtic defeat.

Yang went into the Dundee United match in top form, having scored twice in the 3-1 victory over Motherwell the game prior.

The winger has been crucial to keeping Celtic in the title race, and this form continued on Sunday.

Yang had a great game against Dundee United

According to Fotmob on 23 March, Yang created one chance, completed 37 passes, two dribbles, and won all of his aerial duels.

On top of this, he also helped out defensively, making seven recoveries, three tackles and two clearances.

It was a display that did not deserve to be on the losing side, with Yang ensuring his dominated his side of the pitch.

Therefore, while many players were rightly slammed for the defeat to Dundee United, the winger should be considered an exception.

What does the future hold for Yang at Celtic?

Football Insider previously revealed that Celtic refused to let Yang leave in the winter transfer window despite interest in the winger.

Martin O’Neill heavily rates the star and wanted to keep hold of him for the Scottish Premiership title race.

However, with the manager likely to leave in the summer, and Celtic currently facing the prospect of missing out on Champions League football, this situation could change over the coming months.

Multiple players have already been linked away now that the campaign is reaching its close.

The winger’s performances are likely to be noticed by other sides, and it remains to be seen if Celtic can keep hold of him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
