Yoane Wissa runs riot, but 4/10 teammate forgettable – Newcastle player ratings vs PSV
Newcastle cruised to a dominant victory at St James’ Park as they overcame PSV 3-0 on Wednesday in the Champions League.
After a pathetic performance against Wolves on Sunday, Eddie Howe’s side bounced back in style.
Yoane Wissa gave the Magpies an early lead before the attacker set up Anthony Gordon for the winger to place the ball into the net to put Newcastle up 2-0 up after 30 minutes.
Harvey Barnes then put the Magpies further ahead just after the hour mark with a precise finish.
This proved to be the final piece of action as the Magpies flew into the top eight in the Champions League table.
Yoane Wissa – Man of the match
It was a fantastic performance by Wissa, who utterly dominated PSV from start to finish.
The visitors simply could not handle the striker, with his pressing causing the Dutch giants problems throughout.
Fantastic start for Newcastle, and it’s a 1st Champions League goal for Yoane Wissa as he gives them a 1-0 lead! 💥@tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/LatW6lLSPK— Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) January 21, 2026
This had a big impact in the Magpies’ goals in the first half, with the attacker coolly slotting away the opener with a calm finish.
The performance was a huge turnaround from the Wolves draw, where Wissa was slammed for his inability to find the net.

Hopefully, this will be the start of a fantastic run for the attacker, as the Magpies look to secure a top-eight finish in the Champions League.
Bruno Guimaraes had a forgetful first-half performance
Bruno Guimaraes’ match against PSV was ended early on Wednesday when he was forced off late in the half with an injury.
Previously, Bruno Guimaraes has been excellent in the Champions League. However, his performance on Wednesday offered little before he was eventually taken off.
The midfielder was arguably fortunate to stay on the field after a reckless challenge midway through the half, which resulted in a yellow card.
On top of this, the Brazilian struggled to find his teammates, with Fotmob on 21 January confirming that he only completed 48 per cent of his passes.
Bruno Guimaraes’ stats vs PSV Minutes 45 Passing accuracy 48% Successful dribbles 0% Ground duels won 0% Aerial duels won 0% Shots 0 0 Inteceptions 2
With the midfielder also failing to win a duel and complete a dribble, it was clearly not Bruno Guimaraes’ day.
Nevertheless, hopefully, he is not out of action for too long, with his talents sorely needed in the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.
