£25m Everton star responds to exit questions as European qualification key for transfer silence - report

Jordan Pickford believes that if Everton were to qualify for Europe this season, he could silence questions over why he isn’t playing for a “bigger club”.

The goalkeeper was speaking after the Toffees’ 2-2 draw with Brentford last Saturday, and understands how important the point was in the race for a European spot.

Everton spent £25million on the shot-stopper when signing him from Sunderland all those years ago, as some, including Lee Dixon, have asked why he isn’t at a “bigger club”.

According to the Liverpool Echo, England’s number one feels like the questions asked by Dixon and others in general would be squashed regarding his future, should David Moyes‘ side qualify for Europe.

Pickford has been linked with a move away many a time throughout his stay in Merseyside, but the keeper doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere.

What has Jordan Pickford said over exit questions?

There have been strong signs that Pickford wants to retire at Everton, as the keeper has been a top performer at Hill Dickinson this campaign.

The 32-year-old did make the foul that gifted Brentford a penalty for their opener at the weekend, but he will be sure to make up for it in the weeks to come.

Pickford vs Brentford

While speaking after the Brentford draw, Pickford shared his thoughts on the previous questions asked about why he doesn’t seek a move away from the Blues.

Pickford said: “For me, the Premier League is always tough; it doesn’t matter whether you’re playing the champions or bottom of the table, every game is a battle, and if you’re not on point, you’ll get turned over. That’s what we’ve got to be ready for in these last six games.

“I’m at a great club. If we get Europe this year, those questions will be squashed.”

Evertonians don’t have much to worry about, as they should be set to keep the shot-stopper for a few more years to come.

Who will take over from Pickford?

Everton have two other goalkeepers in the form of Mark Travers and Tom King who have barely been seen this season.

European qualification could see either feature more; however, neither of them will be Pickford’s successor.

George Pickford Everton news

Everton could look in the transfer market to replace Pickford at some point, but if they want a cheaper option and someone who has high potential, then George Pickford may be the young man to trust.

There’s a good chance that the Toffees could see the name Pickford as their starting keeper for another decade yet.
