Adrien Truffert: Manchester United’s left-back solution is obvious, league-leading Bournemouth star must be signed

Adrien Truffert has made a big name for himself in his debut Premier League season, and that should have Manchester United on red alert to try and sign him this summer. 

The left-back has seen his stock rise steadily since he joined AFC Bournemouth from French side Rennes last summer, and the Cherries already appear to have got a bargain with that £14.3million deal.

The 24-year-old struck his first goal for the South Coast outfit to hand them a late 2-1 win away at Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, a moment that served as another milestone in his continued development at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth have gained a reputation for developing up-and-coming stars in recent years, and Manchester United should be ready to try and raid them for Truffert this summer. 

It may seem like the obvious solution to assume that Bournemouth have yet another emerging star on their hands, but he could be perfect to solve United’s left-back issues. 

Stats show Adrien Truffert is already among Premier League’s best

As is often the case with Bournemouth’s signings, Truffert arrived in England as a relative unknown last summer, but he has quickly become a crucial figure under Andoni Iraola this term.

He now has one goal and three assists to his name in the Premier League, and he has played a crucial role bombing up and down the left flank all season. 

The likes of Marcos Senesi, Marcus Tavernier and Eli Kroupi are all receiving prying glances from elsewhere ahead of the summer, and Truffert should become the latest Bournemouth man to be linked with a big move.

United are in the market for a new left-back this summer to provide strong competition for Luke Shaw, and Truffert’s stats show that he would be an excellent option for the Red Devils.

The Frenchman leads the entire league when it comes to tackles won by a defender this term, while he also ranks among the top 10 defenders for both successful dribbles and key passes.

That highlights the fact that he has become a very well-rounded player at Bournemouth this season, and that makes him perfect for the modern-day full-back role.

Truffert feels like a star in the making at the moment, and United would be silly not to take a serious look at him as part of their bid to strengthen their squad for next season. 

Truffert to provide a cost-effective option for Man United

Football Insider revealed at the end of March that Bayern Munich could accept an offer from United for Alphonso Davies this summer, if it proved to be too good to refuse. 

However, with the Canadian widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in Europe, it would likely take a truly seismic offer from the Old Trafford outfit in order to secure his signature.

On the other hand, Truffert would provide a much more cost-effective option, with Bournemouth surely in no place to demand anywhere near as much money as Bayern would.

Davies’ level when he is fully fit is undoubtedly higher than the Bournemouth man, but Truffert would still provide a very capable option for a much smaller price.

That would then allow United further money to spend in other areas of the pitch, such as a new centre-midfielder, which is another of their key priorities for the window.
