Leeds United will never get better chance to sign Gustavo Hamer as Sheffield United ready to sell amid overhaul
Leeds United could finally be about to prise midfielder Gustavo Hamer away from Sheffield United this summer.
The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for the Dutchman in several of the last few transfer windows, but have continually been unsuccessful in their attempts to land him.
The 28-year-old has remained committed to the Blades, and he has continued to put up impressive numbers for them, with 15 goal involvements to his name in the Championship already this term.
Hamer has established himself as one of the second tier’s most exciting players in recent seasons, but he has still had just one solitary campaign in the top flight.
Leeds’ transfer interest could be about to change that for 2026-27, as this finally appears to be the time when their Yorkshire rivals will give in and sanction a sale.

Leeds to capitalise on Sheffield United woes
Hamer was the star performer for Sheffield United when they were relegated from the Premier League back in 2023-24, but he has been unable to lift them back to the promised land since then.
They were beaten by Sunderland in last year’s play-off final, but have been well below their expected level this time around, as they are currently 12 points adrift of a top-six spot.
Stats Gustavo Hamer (Championship) Anton Stach (PL) Apps (Starts) 34 (24) 26 (25) G/A 15 7 Chances Created per 90 2.36 2.44 Successful Dribbles per 90 0.76 0.76 Tackles per 90 1.08 2.39 Duels Won per 90 3.28 5.71
Chris Wilder’s men have struggled to find any sort of consistency since the start of the campaign, and they now appear set to pay the price for their struggles.
Both Hamer and Sydie Peck are “set to be sold” by the Blades this summer, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, with money intended to be raised to fund changes in the rest of the squad.
United’s American owners were keen to have secured a Premier League return by now, and it is understood that they are eyeing a major change of plan on the playing side of the club for next term.
That looks set to play directly into Leeds’ hands, and they will surely take the chance to capitalise on the recent issues at Bramall Lane.
The sustained interest from Daniel Farke’s side is noted in Nixon’s report, but with Sheffield United having previously been unwilling to entertain their advances, this is surely the best chance that Leeds will ever get to secure a deal.
Gustavo Hamer ready to jump at Sheffield United exit chance
Football Insider revealed back in January that Hamer may push to leave Sheffield United if they failed to secure promotion at the end of the season, but it now looks unlikely that he will have to stretch to that.
The former Coventry City man is set to have the chance to leave the club presented to him on a plate ahead of next season, and that is a chance that he will surely be desperate to take.
At 28, Hamer is into the prime of his career, and that will have him keen to test himself in either the Premier League or a top European league, before his career begins to fade out.
The Leeds interest will have been firmly on his radar given how insistent it has been in recent years, and this may finally be the window when it genuinely comes to fruition.
