Ange Postecoglou to Celtic increasingly likely to happen after overnight development

Celtic could soon be on the hunt for another manager in the summer, with Ange Postecoglou in the running.

The Hoops may have just appointed Martin O’Neill, but his long-term stay at the Old Firm side is doubtful.

Football Insider recently revealed that O’Neill is unlikely to stay at Celtic post the 2025-26 campaign, meaning another manager will be needed in the dugout.

While many names have been linked early on, Postecoglou is seen as a potential candidate to make a return to Celtic Park.

Odds slashed for Ange Postecoglou to make Celtic return

Postecogolou has remained out of work since he was sacked by Nottingham Forest in October 2025.

The Australian manager has had a tricky year. Despite winning the Europa League, he was quickly removed from his role as Tottenham manager before failing at Forest in a 39-day spell.

Nevertheless, the 60-year-old is still viewed fondly at Celtic Park, and a potential return is not ruled out.

Football Insider recently uncovered that Postecoglou was on Celtic’s list of targets to replace O’Neill in the summer.

Now, one bookmaker has him just 10/1 to come in for the start of the 2026-27 campaign after overnight developments.

Oddschecker on 24 January confirmed that these odds have been reduced, as Postecoglou is becoming increasingly likely to return to the Celtic dugout for the first time since 2023.

Who is the current favourite for the Celtic job?

As it stands, Roberto Martinez is the favourite to be the Celtic manager for the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

The current Portugal manager hasn’t been in charge of a domestic football side since 2016 at Everton.

Nevertheless, he is currently 7/4 to make the switch to Celtic Park for the start of the new season.

Following this, O’Neill’s chances of staying on at the Old Firm side are 5/2, while his assistant, Shaun Maloney, is given 8/1 odds to take over in the dugout.

A potential outsider for the role is Steve Clarke. At 10/1, the current Scotland National Team manager is viewed as a possible replacement for O’Neill in the summer.

However, it remains to be seen if the 62-year-old is prepared to stop managing his country to go to Celtic after the 2026 World Cup.
