Barry Ferguson snubs Celtic for Rangers as Scotland int'l mooted for Ibrox move
Barry Ferguson would like to see Bologna midfielder and Scotland international Lewis Ferguson move to Rangers on loan in the winter transfer window.
The 26-year-old, who is the former Gers interim manager’s nephew, has been trying to get back to his best since his ACL and Hamstring injuries.
Lewis was released by the Ibrox side during his youth but has since established himself as one of the most important Scottish players of this generation.
Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the 26-year-old is struggling for regular game time in Italy, and a blockbuster homecoming has been suggested for him.
Lewis Ferguson to attract January interest amid Rangers claim
Barry certainly believes Lewis will be in demand as clubs monitor his situation at Bologna.
The midfielder established himself at Aberdeen before completing a big move to the Serie A in 2022, subsequently becoming a key player for the Rossoblu.
Ally McCoist has previously claimed Lewis should’ve been a target at Ibrox, and there’s still time for the Light Blues to possibly sign him.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 23 January, Barry said, “I think there will be a fair bit of interest in him, if I’m being honest with you. I think a lot of clubs will look and thinking, ‘He’s not playing. What are the reasons?’ I’ve watched Bologna a few times. He’s not been in top form, but he has still been good.”
When asked by a Celtic fan whether a cheeky loan move to Celtic could be on the cards for his nephew, the Gers icon responded, “Aye, a wee cheeky loan move to Rangers would be nice.”
Connor Barron’s injury at Ibrox makes a possible move for Lewis sensible, but it doesn’t look likely anytime soon unless the Scotsman pushes for it.
Danny Rohl has special transfer up his sleeves at Ibrox
Danny Rohl could potentially sign someone big at Rangers before the 2 February deadline, with Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen already coming through the door.
The Gers have effectively addressed all the areas of their pitch, but one signing would surely make them favourites for the William Hill Premiership title. https://x.com/EuropaLeague/status/2014021334725005498
Despite a reliable number nine, the German manager has managed to turn the tide at the Light Blues, and one can only wonder what he could achieve if he had someone capable of scoring 30-plus goals in a season.
The situation in G51 will be one to keep an eye on as fans could potentially be treated to something special before the window closes.
