'Behind the scenes' - Journo shares what Rangers have done to avoid Cortes transfer repeat
Rangers won’t want to repeat what happened with Oscar Cortes, who was signed permanently after his loan spell.
In February 2024, the Gers signed the 22-year-old on loan from Lens with an obligation to buy that same summer for £4.5million.
Cortes has now joined Huracan on loan, his second destination this season from the Light Blues after moving to Sporting Gijon in the summer.
It’s safe to say that the Colombian national’s deal at the Glaswegian outfit has been a massive failure, and they have to be careful in the future.
Rangers won’t make Oscar Cortes mistake with Andreas Skov Olsen
Danny Rohl is set to sign Andreas Skov Olsen from VfL Wolfsburg, with an agreement in place for a temporary move until the end of the season.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the deal for the Denmark international’s move to Ibrox will also include an option to buy for around £8.5m in the summer, but it’s not an obligation.
Robert Grieve believes the boardroom in Govan have taken a much-needed cautious approach and they will have control over the 26-year-old’s future.
Speaking on The Set Piece on 14 January, the journalist said, “It’s going to be an option, and I think Rangers are going to have full control over it. I think there’s been a real decision being made behind the scenes that they can’t get themselves into a position as they have done before, where they have loan signings come in who haven’t been particularly great, and they’re obliged to then make it a deal.”
Grieve added, “You look at Cortes, who’s still a Rangers player. And he’s just been sent out again on loan.”
Rohl will surely be happy with the early transfer business done at Ibrox, and the race for the William Hill Premiership title is arguably going to be enticing in the current campaign.
Andreas Skov Olsen transfer to be followed by another attacker
Skov Olsen will likely be announced by Rangers soon, joining Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens.
The Gers are showing real intent in the winter transfer window, and the recent signings show they mean business.
One deal that will arguably be the icing on the cake for supporters in G51 would be the arrival of a new reliable number nine at the Light Blues.
While Youssef Chermiti is finally starting to find his feet at the Glaswegian outfit, a player who can consistently score goals will undoubtedly elevate them to being favourites for the title.
