Callum Hudson-Odoi’s contract situation examined as Nottingham Forest star suffers season-ending injury

Callum Hudson-Odoi will play no further part in Nottingham Forest’s battle to stay in the Premier League this season.

The 25-year-old missed Forest’s 4-1 win over Burnley on Sunday, 19 April, having lasted just 25 minutes as a second-half substitute against FC Porto during midweek.

With six goals and four assists in 43 games, it is the winger’s joint-best season in red since his arrival in the summer of 2023, but he won’t be seen again at the City Ground.

It has been confirmed that he will miss the Reds’ remaining five league games and the Europa League semi-final, returning in pre-season, which will come as a huge blow to Vitor Pereira.

Callum Hudson-Odoi suffers new setback at Nottingham Forest

Despite joining Forest in 2023, Hudson-Odoi put pen to paper on a new contract as recently as the start of the current campaign, extending his stay until 2029.

If reports are to be believed, the star winger earns £90,000-a-week, adding up to a little over £4.6million-a-year, making him the joint-third highest earner at the club.

Due to his exploits at the City Ground, transfer links have surrounded the player’s future, with Besiktas registering an interest in Hudson-Odoi last summer, though a move never materialised.

While his injury does represent Omari Hutchinson with a chance of bettering his chances of a future at the City Ground, it is a huge blow for all other parties.

Should Forest be concerned about the winger’s injury record?

His former clubs, Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, will know full well that the winger has experienced his fair share of issues off the pitch, ever since his academy days.

Just last season, he missed five matches via three separate injuries, while also missing three games to a hamstring problem during the 2023-24 campaign.

The good news, however, is that his last long-term injury came in the 2021-22 season, being absent for 14 games thanks to an Achilles issue.

Of course, those at the City Ground will be extremely worried about his new setback, especially at such a critical time in the season, but Pereira has more than enough talent to fill in for him.
