View: Everton star will have something to say about new Glenn Hoddle claim, it's simply wrong
Everton star Jordan Pickford may have a rival to win the Premier League’s save of the season competition.
That is according to Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle, who waxed lyrical about Karl Darlow’s brilliant stop to deny Wolves’ Ladislav Krejci on Saturday.
The centre-back looked destined to score when his glancing header from six yards out powered towards the goal from a second-half corner.
And despite the Leeds goalkeeper’s body weight going the other way, the 35-year-old pulled off a superb reflex save.
Ahead of Everton’s clash with West Ham on Saturday, it might be worth reflecting on Pickford’s world-class stop to deny Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali back in February, in light of Darlow’s heroics.

Karl Darlow vs Jordan Pickford
When it comes to who is the better keeper, that question isn’t really up for debate.
Pickford leads the way across the board, but the save of the season question may be more debatable.

Indeed, former Manchester United stopper Peter Schmeichel said Darlow’s stop was unbelievable, and that was the best save of the latest round of Premier League fixtures.
Hoddle then added on Premier League Productions: “It’s an incredible save because his body weight is going one way.
“It will be up there as one of the saves of the season. It might even win it.”
Hoddle may have said it in the heat of the moment, but surely Pickford’s diving stop to deny Tonali’s volley tops the lot?
The speed and ferocity of the Italian’s shot would have proven too much for 99 per cent of goalkeepers – but not Pickford, who celebrated ferociously after.
All of this is subjective, of course, but the England international’s one takes some beating.
Everton need Pickford at his best
Everton’s European chances received a blow after losing to Liverpool on Sunday in the first Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The result saw Everton drop from eighth to 10th, although Chelsea, in sixth, are just one point ahead.
The Toffees have got to this point off the back of having a mean defence, something they will need to maintain in their last five fixtures.
First off, they travel to West Ham in another David Moyes reunion. If they can come out on top at London Stadium, their quest for European football is well and truly on.
If not, it could be curtains for another year. However, Pickford is likely to have a big say on that.
