Championship manager installed as new favourite to be sacked next after Marti Cifuentes leaves Leicester
Marti Cifuentes is the latest Championship manager to face the sack after his departure was officially confirmed by Leicester City on Sunday.
Andy King is set to take interim charge of Leicester after the Spaniard was dismissed following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Oxford United.
The Foxes welcomed the Spaniard in the summer, but six disappointing months have left the promotion hopefuls six points away from the play-offs.
Russell Martin is the favourite to take over at Leicester following Cifuentes‘ departure, with the former Southampton boss available after leaving Rangers in October.
The Championship‘s latest sacking follows Ryan Mason’s dismissal at West Brom earlier this month, which ended his five-month tenure.

Championship sack race has new leader
Cifuentes and Mason have joined the likes of Gary Rowett, Will Still, Alan Sheehan and Liam Manning in getting sacked in the Championship this season.
But the managerial changes are not expected to stop there. With several teams struggling, decision-makers may identify the next few weeks as their final chance to make a managerial change.
Past that is likely considered too late to have any major effect on this season’s outcome, although that does not always prevent a sacking.
Valerien Ismael looks to be the next major contender for the sack, with his Blackburn Rovers team 22nd and without a win in any of their previous seven Championship games.
Rovers face Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday in the next eight days, in what is expected to be a key period for Ismael.
Further up the table, Chris Davies remains under pressure at Birmingham City. The Blues are unbeaten in five games across all competitions, but struggle to produce consistent wins.
Decision-makers may rapidly run out of patience if Davies’ side do not start to make a push for the play-off spots, especially considering the money invested this month.

Ismael is one major bookmaker’s favourite to be sacked next in the Championship at 6/4, followed by Davies (7/2), and Henrik Pedersen at Sheffield Wednesday (4/1).
Nathan Jones and Eric Ramsay retain remote sacking chances
Charlton Athletic‘s Nathan Jones and West Brom‘s Eric Ramsay complete the bookies’ top five to be sacked next in the Championship.
The latter, surprisingly, considering he arrived just 15 days ago, but his start to life at The Hawthorns has been appalling.
A late loss to Middlesbrough was disappointing, but encouraging due to the fight shown. There was nothing to be positive about when the Baggies were thumped 5-0 by Norwich City, however.
Ramsay has since got a point on the board at Derby County, while Jones’ team are seriously struggling.
Charlton have won just one of their last seven Championship games, and just two of their last 14. Should the Addicks maintain form like that, they will go down.
But decision-makers will be keen to give Jones every chance to turn it around, after he guided them up from League One last season.
