Crysencio Summerville to derail West Ham’s survival fight after new blow vs Brentford
Nuno Espirito Santo could soon be regretting his choices concerning Crysencio Summerville after West Ham United beat Brentford in the FA Cup.
The Dutchman replaced Adama Traore at the half-time break on Monday, 9 March, with his biggest impact being picking up a yellow card for conceding a late penalty.
Igor Thiago’s spot-kick forced the game to extra time, but after 120 minutes, the Hammers were finally victorious from 12 yards, winning the shootout 5-3 after a four-goal thriller.
Progressing to the FA Cup quarter-finals could hand Nuno’s side a massive boost in the closing stages of the 2025-26 campaign, but it might also completely backfire in terms of injuries to the West Ham squad.

Nuno Espirito Santo to fear the worst after FA Cup win
Lukasz Fabianski is the only West Ham player currently missing due to injury, having not featured since September, but that could be about to change for Nuno and his team.
Halfway through extra time, Summerville received treatment from the medical staff before getting back to his feet. From this point, however, he didn’t quite look right.
Fears were only confirmed when the Dutchman sat on the bench while his teammates discussed penalty kicks with the manager, with several checking on him away from the pitch.
He also couldn’t be seen in the post-match celebrations, sparking major concerns over his fitness and injury update, which Nuno has not yet given on the tricky winger.
Crysencio Summerville injury fears emerge vs Brentford
This season, Summerville has seven goals and two assists across all competitions, with eight of those contributions coming in his last 11 appearances.
Only Jarrod Bowen can boast a better record this season, and even the England international will admit that he is not currently at his best for the Hammers.
Losing the star winger could have disastrous impacts on the Hammers’ remaining fixtures, especially with Wolves, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Leeds United all left to play in the league.
Supporters will be crossing absolutely everything that Summerville’s injury is not serious, but given the club’s campaign so far, it would not be a surprise to see him ruled out long-term.
