Danny Murphy: I saw something from Chelsea player that convinces me he’s a ‘superstar in the making’
Danny Murphy was full of praise for Chelsea winger Estevao after his stunning performance against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Chelsea beat Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park, marking a third consecutive win across all competitions for Liam Rosenior‘s side.
Estevao opened the scoring in the first half when he capitalised on Jaydee Canvot‘s poor pass, before Joao Pedro added a second after the break.
Enzo Fernandez added a third from the spot after Canvot was penalised for handball, but, despite Adam Wharton‘s red card, Chris Richards would find the game’s next and final goal.
Arsenal and Man United attempted to sign Estevao before Chelsea got their hands on him, and it is easy to see why the winger was so sought after.
Danny Murphy raves about ‘outstanding’ Estevao
It was arguably the distance that Estevao had to cover that made his opening goal against Palace so impressive.
When Canvot mistakenly passed it back, the Chelsea winger was almost midway in his own half, with the pacey Tyrick Mitchell hot on his heels.

But the Brazilian did not let the full-back get close, speeding away from him and bending his path to set up a smashed finish past Dean Henderson when inside the box.
And that would not be the extent of Estevao’s impact, with the 18-year-old continuing to prove a constant threat for Palace.
The forward’s chipped through ball was run onto by Pedro in the second half, with the striker stepping inside Wharton before striking through the legs of Henderson.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day on Sunday, Wayne Rooney said Estevao was ‘outstanding’ against Palace, and Murphy agreed, but chose to speak about a different moment.
“I saw him live against Arsenal in the semi-final of the League Cup,” he said. “And he came up against [Jurrien] Timber, who was playing on the left, and I’ve not seen anyone give Timber that many problems.
“So direct, so strong, goes both ways. I agree, I think he’s a superstar in the making.”
What Liam Rosenior said about ‘special’ Estevao
Estevao was not an unknown quantity when Chelsea spent the £29million it took to sign him from Palmeiras in 2024.
But few would have expected just how quickly the winger has adapted to Premier League football.
Speaking after Sunday’s game, Rosenior said: “He’s a player with special abilities, special talent. He’s been ill, and every time he’s been on the pitch so far with me, I think he’s been outstanding.
Estevao’s latest goal was his sixth across all competitions this season – a number only bettered in the Chelsea squad by Pedro Neto, Pedro and Fernandez.
