Enzo Fernandez: Real Madrid lead betting race to sign Chelsea star, Man United odds revealed

Enzo Fernandez could be set to leave Chelsea this summer after he was dropped by Liam Rosenior for comments he made last month.

The Argentine refused to rule out a move away from the Blues in the summer and admitted his fondness for Madrid, after his side had been knocked out of the Champions League.

Rosenior responded by dropping the 25-year-old for matches against Port Vale and Manchester City, expressing his disappointment in comments made this week.

The situation has only intensified the uncertainty surrounding Fernandez’s Chelsea future, which appears increasingly unclear.

Chelsea transfer chiefs will be in a strong position should he demand an exit, with the £107million footballer signing a nine-year contract when he joined in 2023.

Real Madrid lead race for Enzo Fernandez

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider last month that Saudi Arabian clubs want Fernandez, as interest in the midfielder’s situation grows.

The Argentine is expected to stay in Europe if he does leave Chelsea, however, with him being more than capable of performing for the best clubs on the continent.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a superb individual season for the Blues, scoring 12 goals across all competitions so far.

Fernandez initially struggled to contend with the mammoth price tag he had attracted at Benfica, but the last two seasons have seen him grow into the player he was expected to be.

That journey could now continue elsewhere, however, with a feeling growing that the midfielder is becoming frustrated at Chelsea.

The London club won the Club World Cup and Conference League last season, but look no closer to challenging for the Premier League or the Champions League.

The departure of Enzo Maresca in January, who oversaw Fernandez’s adaptation to the Premier League, has not helped the situation either.

One major bookmaker has named Real Madrid as the 4/1 favourite to sign the Argentina international if he does leave, while PSG (6/1) and Atletico Madrid (7/1) would also be in the race.

Liam Rosenior on ‘unbelievable’ Fernandez relationship

Rosenior has made it clear that the door is open for Fernandez to return to the Chelsea line-up after his ban has concluded.

The midfielder also won’t lose his position as vice-captain, with the Argentine having led the Blues with the armband for much of the season.

“The door is not closed on Enzo,” said Rosenior. “It’s a sanction. You have to protect the culture, and in terms of that, a line was crossed.”

He added: “We had a really calm conversation. I explained the decision and why. I know it doesn’t look like it right now, but Enzo and I have an unbelievable relationship.”
