Everton alter post-Burnley plans due to Middle East conflict - report

Everton have cancelled plans to travel to the Middle East for a warm-weather training camp this week.

The Toffees were due to fly out to Abu Dhabi following Tuesday’s Premier League clash with Burnley as they have an 11-day gap between matches.

Everton also flew out to the United Arab Emirates last year to freshen up ahead of the end-of-season run-in.

However, The Telegraph reports those plans have been shelved due to the conflict in the Middle East.

But it appears David Moyes’ side have been thinking on their feet as new plans now appear to already be in place.

Everton set to stay in Europe for warm-weather training camp

Moyes knows the importance of keeping his players fit and raring to go with some crucial games still to come.

With the clash against Arsenal not until 14 March, there is an extended break for Everton. Moyes clearly does not want his players going through the motions at Finch Farm.

Instead, separate reports suggest Everton will now stay in Europe and instead set up camp in Portugal.

Before that, though, there is the small matter of the clash with Championship-bound Burnley at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes will be eager to bow out on a high before this mini-break, which is becoming increasingly common now at this point in the season for teams who are out of the FA Cup.

Sunderland loss could be a blessing in disguise

Being knocked out of the FA Cup is never nice, particularly when it comes on home soil, but the loss to Sunderland last month may prove a positive in the long term.

Everton now have a week-and-a-half to refresh ahead of the final nine matches of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Moyes has made clear that qualifying for Europe is his aim, and there is absolutely no reason why that cannot be possible.

It is all about taking it one game at a time, starting with the visit or Burnley and then the showdown with leaders Arsenal.

Let’s just hope the Toffees take full advantage of the sun in Portugal and return ready to go at Emirates Stadium in a little under two weeks’ time.
