Everton transfer collapses as update shared after new 9pm deadline - report

Dwight McNeil looked destined to leave Everton on deadline day.

The Toffees have had a busy final day of the window, and with the 7pm deadline now passed, it looked destined to be smooth sailing until deals were announced.

Everton look set to sign Tyrique George, which in itself would have appeared to be a strange signing at the beginning of the window.

The Chelsea loanee will provide cover for Jack Grealish after his injury at Everton, with the youngster also seemingly marked as a McNeil replacement.

A deal had been agreed with Crystal Palace for McNeil, but it looks as if that has fallen through despite the submission of a deal sheet.

Dwight McNeil to Crystal Palace deal collapses

A shock development emerged at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday when the Eagles’ interest in McNeil emerged out of nowhere.

Oliver Glasner’s side were reportedly willing to pay £20million for the winger, something which was always going to be hard for the Toffees to refuse.

The ex-Burnley man isn’t a guaranteed starter on Merseyside, especially with the potential addition of George from Chelsea.

Now it appears that a deal for Everton’s number seven is off the cards, with Alex Crook reporting that a deal “is off”.

This looks set to leave McNeil in an increasingly sticky situation when he eventually returns to the Blues after deadline day has passed.

Everton tease Tyrique George signing

Although no one expected McNeil to leave, it did make sense for everyone involved if George were to put pen to paper on a loan deal.

It looks as if the Toffees are set to confirm that deal with a teaser emerging on X featuring the message soon and a sand timer emoji partnered with a video of the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

That is almost certainly pointing towards the Chelsea loanee’s switch, something which will now spell bad news for McNeil.

The Englishman looked destined to join Palace and is now coming back to Everton to play second, if not third choice in some areas of the squad.

David Moyes now has a decision of how to utilise his talents, but it feels like a wasted window for the Englishman after edging so close to an exit.
