Everton want defender who Euro club may be forced to sell - report

Everton are interested in Lazio centre-back Mario Gila ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Spanish defender has been a key player for the Serie A club over the last two seasons, but they may be forced to sell him in the coming months.

It’s been claimed that the Blues are among the contenders to sign the 25-year-old, whose current contract expires in 2027.

The Friedkin Group must back David Moyes in the summer, and they could potentially take advantage of Gila’s situation at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio may be forced to sell Everton target Mario Gila

Gila has already informed Lazio that he won’t be extending his contract at the club, according to Tuttosport.

The news outlet reports on 12 March that the Italian club will be forced to sell the defender in the summer if they want to avoid losing him for free at the end of next season.

Apart from the Toffees, AC Milan, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the centre-back.

Moyes could lose Michael Keane, who is in the final year of his deal at Hill Dickinson Stadium, making defensive reinforcements an evident priority for the Blues.

Gila was part of the Real Madrid youth setup for a few years before moving to Lazio, where he has developed into a solid centre-back known for his passing abilities.

David Moyes shouldn’t make Mario Gila number one transfer target

Moyes has several other positions at Everton that need strengthening before a new centre-back is signed.

A new right-back and left-back should be higher up on the Scottish manager’s agenda at the end of the season, with Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson and Adam Aznou clearly surplus to requirements.

Jake O’Brien has constantly been played out of position, while Vitalii Mykolenko hasn’t had much cover in recent months.

TFG will surely have connections in Rome to get a deal over the line for Gila, but their initial focus in the summer must be on other targets.
