Everton's European qualification chances revealed in supercomputer prediction after Burnley win

Everton maintained their hopes of European qualification with a 2-0 win against Burnley on Tuesday.

The Toffees welcomed Scott Parker’s side to Hill Dickinson Stadium with the hope of finally getting back to winning ways on Merseyside.

They did exactly that as James Tarkowski’s first-half header settled the nerves and helped David Moyes’ men on their way to victory.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall went on to net a second with half an hour to go as the Blues sealed all three points in L4.

That has certainly boosted the hopes of a top-seven finish, especially with Brentford failing to win away to Bournemouth.

The Toffees have been particularly excellent away from home in recent weeks, but home form has taken a knock in the new ground.

That was on show after a massive win against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, having tasted defeat against Manchester United and Bournemouth at home.

The Burnley clash needed something to change, and it did to hand Moyes a first L4 victory since December.

Everton now sit eighth in the Premier League behind Brentford by one point, with a place in Europe on the line.

Everton Premier League table

The Opta supercomputer has now offered the Blues a 0.31 per cent chance of qualifying for the Champions League and a 1.51 per cent chance of entering the Europa League.

However, it is worth noting this does not factor in the team in seventh qualifying for UEFA’s secondary competition, which is likely to be the case.

There is no probability available for Conference League qualification, but with an eighth-place finish predicted, the Toffees seemingly have work to do if they want to seal their place in the competition.

With Champions League football likely to be open to the top five, a Conference League spot could drop to eighth before the end of the campaign.

What would Conference League qualification do for Everton?

There have been plenty of sides in recent years who have qualified for Europe for the first time in many years through the Premier League.

The most recent example is Nottingham Forest, but arguably, the case study for where it can get you is Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s side reached the competition and utilised it as a springboard to eventually qualify for the Champions League as their level of signings stepped up.

Moyes also has excellent experience in the Conference League after winning it with West Ham, so he knows personally what sort of impact it can have.

It may be the third tier of European competition, but it could make a telling difference in the future of Everton Football Club.
