Everything we know about Guglielmo Vicario’s contract situation amid Premier League controversy

Guglielmo Vicario is coming under increased levels of scrutiny at Tottenham.

The Italian has failed to cover himself at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in recent weeks as the threat of relegation grows greater every week.

His shoddy performances have raised eyebrows, with his most recent showing away to Fulham just being the tip of the iceberg for the Lilywhites.

It is no surprise that Spurs are already looking at new goalkeeper options ahead of the summer, with various shot stoppers already linked.

That hasn’t stopped the North London outfit from defending Vicario, as Tottenham News assesses what we know about his contract situation.

The 29-year-old is certainly struggling as much as anyone in N17 right now, and his performance at Craven Cottage proved that.

On multiple occasions, the keeper kicked the ball straight out of play, much to the annoyance of the travelling fans.

One moment caught the eye more than most when Vicario lumped a free kick out of play after the ball was left to him.

The Premier League shared a clip of this featuring the caption, “Just how the play was drawn up”, and “Whoops” featured on screen during the video.

Tottenham complained about the post, suggesting that the league shouldn’t be mocking its own teams and players.

The post has since been deleted, and Spurs got their way, but that may not stop the keeper from being shipped out in the summer.

What is Vicario’s contract situation at Tottenham?

The Italian isn’t rated particularly highly by plenty of supporters in N17 right now as his future comes under serious question.

Despite that, Vicario remains under contract until the summer of 2028 after only signing for Tottenham back in 2023.

The shot stopper is currently paid a reported weekly wage of £75,000, which equates to a yearly salary in the region of £3.9million.

That ranks quite lowly within the Spurs squad, but that isn’t to say that he isn’t paid a fair salary for a struggling keeper.

There will be obvious questions about his future moving into the summer, something which hasn’t been helped by the Premier League’s post.
