What is Michael Keane’s contract situation at Everton?

It has come as a surprise to many that the ex-Burnley man has become such a useful squad player on Merseyside.

He has already featured in 27 Premier League matches and has helped the Blues into a European qualification race.

That has made the one-year deal he signed last summer worth every penny, as he has repaid the faith Moyes showed in him.

His current deal will see him remain an Everton player until the summer, when he will become a free agent in L4.

The Englishman is currently paid a reported weekly fee of £80,000, equating to a yearly wage in the region of £4.1million.

Keane has even been mentioned in England call-up chatter due to his form, but his future remains up in the air right now.

Could Keane sign a new contract at Everton?

It feels like there’s no real reason why the defender shouldn’t be afforded new terms on Merseyside after an excellent season.

Losing a player who has featured as much as Keane would be a blow, especially on a free transfer when he could have been kept.

Even another one-year deal on similar terms would be a worthwhile exercise and would likely be accepted by the former Manchester United youngster.

It would ultimately come down to what direction Moyes wants to go in, but he needs a squad and Keane would play a useful part in any side he builds.
