Everything we know about Rabbi Matondo’s contract situation amid Rangers nightmare

Rabbi Matondo continues to watch Rangers from the sidelines after being frozen out.

The Wales international has featured in just one minute’s worth of Scottish Premiership football this season and only 29 in the Scottish Cup.

That has marked a massively disappointing return from his loan spell at Hannover 96 last campaign, where he played 10 times from January onwards.

His fortunes at Ibrox don’t look like changing any time soon, especially with Danny Rohl’s side doing their utmost to win the league this season.

Matondo is almost guaranteed to leave Rangers in the summer, and now Ibrox News has rounded up everything we know about his contract in Govan.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

What is Rabbi Matondo’s contract situation at Rangers?

The winger has surprisingly been called up to the Wales squad for the upcoming international break.

That could provide him with much-needed minutes away from G51 as he looks to rebuild his career after a terrible campaign.

Three years at Ibrox look destined to come to an end, but may do so after the World Cup if Craig Bellamy’s side are to qualify for the summer tournament.

Reports have emerged previously that the Gers want to terminate his contract early, but that is yet to be agreed by the Light Blues.

Rabbi Matondo Rangers contract expiry

The ex-Schalke man is out of contract in the summer as his original expiry date is in June 2026, after completing his Govan move in 2022.

Matondo reportedly earns a fee in the region of £28,000 per week at Ibrox, equating to a yearly salary of around £1.45million.

Regardless of Matondo being in the Wales squad, he is set to be on the move in the coming months as the Light Blues look to get his wages off the books.

Could Coventry City return interest in Matondo?

It is unclear where the attackers future lies after so much disappointment throughout the campaign.

A free transfer is on the table for any interested parties moving into the summer, but there have been limited reports of interest at this stage.

Links did once emerge from Coventry City, who failed to sign Matondo on a loan-to-buy deal back in January 2025.

There was a reported disagreement over the payment structure, and the move fell through, but that could change without a fee involved.

Interest could emerge from elsewhere with Frank Lampard’s side remaining hopeful of promotion, leaving the Welshman in limbo right now.
