Ex-Everton employee shares what sources have told him about Thierno Barry

Everton are delighted with the progression that striker Thierno Barry is making since his arrival from Villarreal.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states Barry is becoming a “fan favourite” on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old scored the winner as Everton beat Aston Villa 1-0 last time out in the Premier League to take his tally to four goals this season.

Barry had endured a difficult start to life at Everton, but the Frenchman has now become David Moyes’ preferred option up-front over Beto.

Thierno Barry receives high praise

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks the club should still target a striker in the transfer market.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness stated though that Everton are pleased with Barry.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s no doubt he’s certainly, you know, he took his goal very well at Villa.

“He’s now scored, I think, four recently. So, look, he’s become a fan favourite pretty quickly. They see the effort he’s putting in. He’s certainly adapting to the Premier League.

And it takes these players, as we all know, and we keep repeating it, but it does take him a while to settle in and get used to the demand of the Premier League and the speed and the pace. But he’s shown great willingness. He’s apparently doing great in training. They like him a lot with what he’s got.

“But I think it would still be good to have that experience, possibly playing two up-front on occasions, and so we’ll see what does happen, but I think he’s one, that yes, he’s coming better, and I think Moyes is much happier with him as a starter.”

Everton have Tim Iroegbunam decision to make

Everton could lose midfielder Tim Iroegbunam in the final week of the January transfer window after the club received an offer for the 22-year-old.

Lazio submitted a £15million bid for Iroegbunam, who has started five of Everton’s last six Premier League matches.

Iroegbunam joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2024, and the club did not want to lose him in January due to the African Cup of Nations and injuries in the squad.
