Ex-PGMOL chief: Leicester to 'deal with it in-house' after Harry Winks footage goes viral

Leicester City are more likely to punish Harry Winks behind closed doors than the football authorities following his explosive confrontation with fans.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that he feels it is unlikely that the player could be punished by outside sources for his reaction.

Gary Rowett’s Foxes fell to a 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday, 18 April, with Leicester’s No.8 lashing out at fans waiting outside the stadium following the full-time whistle.

Leicester remain eight points from safety in the Championship table, with just three matches left to salvage their season, and cracks are there for all to see at the King Power Stadium.

Harry Winks is unlikely to be punished despite Fratton Park outburst

Away fans have responded extremely negatively to the footage on social media, with it now doing the rounds on X after the former Tottenham midfielder lost control of his emotions.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: “Trending on social media is a frustrated Leicester City player, Harry Winks, having a verbal altercation with a fan using an expletive.

“I do not see the authorities taking any action on this one, leaving the Leicester City management to deal with it in-house.”

Winks can hardly hold his head high following the defeat, making very little impact in the final third, and not putting enough effort into his challenges to stop Pompey from taking the lead.

Supporters are unlikely to want Winks anywhere near the squad next season following his outburst, but that will be the least of the Foxes’ worries ahead of the summer transfer window.

Football Insider understands that Abdul Fatawu would jump at a Premier League move, with Everton and Sunderland already battling for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Jordan James is unlikely to sign permanently if the Foxes are relegated to League One, with the same going for Man City loanee Divine Mukasa or Burnley’s Aaron Ramsey.

Jeremy Monga is also heavily linked with a big-money move ahead of the summer, and losing the 16-year-old gem would be a huge blow to Leicester.
