Ex-PGMOL chief praises Anthony Taylor over 'spot-on' Rio Ngumoha incident vs Fulham
Anthony Taylor deserves to be praised after not awarding Liverpool a penalty against Fulham for a potential foul on Rio Ngumoha.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the referee was in a “brilliant position” to wave away the player’s claim on Saturday, 11 April.
It took just 16 minutes for Taylor to have his first big decision at Anfield, but straight away, the PGMOL official denied calls for a spot-kick in the Reds’ favour, despite plenty of angst from the crowd.
The 47-year-old has the honour of jetting out to the 2026 World Cup in the summer, and Hackett clearly feels that has been earned by Howard Webb referee, who made a quick and correct call in Liverpool versus Fulham.

Rio Ngumoha made to wait for Liverpool goal at Anfield
Ngumoha was absolutely adamant that a penalty should have been awarded, but the Cottagers’ Oscar Bobb thought exactly the opposite, unsurprisingly.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: “Liverpool appealed for a penalty kick, but World Cup-bound referee Anthony Taylor was in a brilliant position to correctly turn it down.
“It’s a spot-on decision from the match official, who displays great confidence in his decision-making.”

In the 36th minute, though, Ngumoha took his chance brilliantly to open the scoring, bending a beautiful effort into the far corner after cutting onto his right foot and escaping Timothy Castagne.
Anthony Taylor given further praise before Mohamed Salah goal
Taylor is set to represent England’s officials, alongside Michael Oliver and Jarred Gillett, and he is clearly proving himself worthy ahead of the sport’s most important competition this summer.
“Wow. That was a brilliant advantage applied by referee Taylor, one that allowed Liverpool to advance and score a great goal by the Liverpool player’s individual skill,” Hackett said to Football Insider.
The Reds took full advantage of the advantage, with Ngumoha crossing into Cody Gakpo, who controlled and fed the ball into Salah, who fired smartly into the furthest corner in the 40th minute.
