Record-breaking Bayern Munich squad depth shines against St. Pauli

When Bayern put Pauli to the sword on Saturday, scoring their 101st, 102nd, 103rd, 104th and 105th Bundesliga goals of the season, they did so without many of their star names. At the back, Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah were left on the bench, Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl missed out through injury, and both Luis Díaz and top scorer Harry Kane were also left on the bench. The latter wasn’t even required throughout the 90 minutes.

Bayern’s starting XI against Pauli included just four of the players that started in the club’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid during the week. That’s not to say that it was a Bayern team lacking quality; Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise both started and scored, for example, but it shows just how strong Kompany’s squad is.
